And I say this as someone who thinks OF is the best thing since sliced bread. That being said, if you're going to be using other platforms besides your iPhone, OF may not be for you.

I have the upgrade, because I sometimes use the Focus and Custom Perspective features, but I wouldn't say they're essential. The app is very usable on the iPhone without the upgrade. The Pomodoro technique is basically-25 minutes working, 5 minute break, and after you complete 4 you get a longer break, usually 10/15 minutes. The perspectives I use are called "Burning" (all available flagged/due tasks for the day-basically I GTD with this list), "Break" (all "Braindead," "Hanging around," and "Thinking" tasks, to do while I'm pooping or I have a short break at work), "Wired" (all "Focus," "Thinking," and "Short Dash" tasks which I typically work from if I've worked through all the "Burning" tasks, which isn't often it's also useful during the weekly review so I can space out difficult tasks until I can work on them), and "Tired" (which contains "Hanging Around" and "Braindead" tasks which I work from when I'm feeling lazy). (Also the TLC list is a fantastic idea for a shut-in like myself, great job /u/jonkan for getting me to call my momma.) The daily routine part is essential for me. I think it's a pretty useful article about the possibilities of OF. My set-up and routines resemble /u/jonkan's, which he blogs about here.
